The Ibn Khuldoon National School was founded in 1983 with 27 faculty members and 230 students from kindergarten to grnds and nationalities, however the majority are Arabs. They come from above average socio-economic backgrounds. With few exceptions, all students plan on continuing their higher education.
In 2007, 113 students, including His Majesty King Hamad's son Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, graduated with 47 achieving International Baccalaureates (IB), 27 graduating from the Honour Society, 11 with distinction, eight with high distinction and three from the Student Congress.[1]
Also in 2007, a team from the school won the 2006-2007 TradeQuest programme, The Investment Trading Challenge, a simulated stock-trading programme.[2]
In 2009, the school won the annual OnionBag Under-19 Girls Soccer Tournament in Dubai for the first time.[3]
The school is an associate member of the Near East South Asia Association of Schools (NESA). NESA’s mission is to serve member schools by providing professional development opportunities and educational services for teachers and administrators. NESA promotes professional and personal links among educators and sponsors annual conferences for member schools.
The school is a member of ASCD, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. ASCD is a non-profit organization that addresses all aspects of effective teaching and learning – such as professional development, educational leadership and capacity building.
